Health Placement Information – I’m unable to attend my Health Care practice placement, what should I do?

For all Nursing, Midwifery, and Allied Health Programmes

If you are unable to attend your health care practice placement due to sickness, inclement weather* or any other unexpected circumstance, you will need to make up the hours at a later date and you must follow these four steps:

  1. You must contact your placement area so that they know not to expect you, the earlier you can do this the better.
  2. You must update your timesheet as all absences must be recorded. All hours missed must be made up before the end of your current placement where possible. If this is not possible you can request a consolidation placement.
  3. You must inform your personal tutor.
  4. You must notify us of your absence:

*During inclement weather you should make safe and reasonable efforts to attend your shift without putting yourself at risk, it is your decision as to whether you can get to your placement safely. Please check the UHB/partner organisation or organisation’s website for information and the local radio news.  If you are unable to attend your placement due to the weather, you will be required to work the hours at a later date.  If a Practice Supervisor / Practice Assessor suggests that you leave your placement early as the weather looks like it could deteriorate, you will be credited with the full shift but will be given some practice focussed work to make up the hours.
