Placements for Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Programmes – What support can I access whilst on placement?


For all Nursing, Midwifery, and Allied Health Programmes
Your USW personal tutor will be available to provide support whilst on placement and throughout your course.

For students studying Nursing
If you are on placement with the NHS, you will be provided with support from your Practice Supervisor and Practice Assessor, these are registered health and social care professionals who have undergone additional training to help support you through each practice learning experience.  Each Health Board will have a number of Practice Facilitators who are also there to support you, you will meet the Practice Facilitators during the Health Board induction.

For students studying Midwifery 
You will be provided with support from your Practice Supervisor and Practice Assessor as well as a Practice Development Midwife, these are registered health and social care professionals who have undergone additional training to help support you through each practice learning experience.  Each Health Board will have a number of Practice Facilitators who are also there to support you, it’s likely you will meet them during the Health Board induction.  In addition, each Health Board also has an aligned USW link tutor.

For students studying Occupational Therapy & Physiotherapy
For each placement you will be provided support from a named Practice Educator who will provide supervision and will undertake your  assessment.  Each specialist area has a Lead Practice Coordinator who will also support you during your placement. If you are undertaking a Role emerging placement you will be allocated an onsite mentor and a long-arm Practice Educator. The long arm supervisor will be a qualified Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist from outside the organisation

For Students studying Operating Department Practice 
You will be provided with support on each placement by a lead Practice Educator and a named Practice Educator.  Each Health Board also has an aligned University link tutor.
