FAQ 776
Should I tell the university I have a mental health condition?

If your mental health can impact on your ability to study, then the University has a legal duty to look at ways to support you and provide adjustments. If you do not tell us, then it may limit our ability to support you.

If you have a long-term mental health condition, you may be able to apply for Disabled Students Allowance. You can also talk to an Adviser about what support you may need while at university. This might include extra support from a mentor, special arrangements on your course, or liaison with other USW staff.

If you decide to disclose this information, only staff who need to know this information (e.g., Mental Health Adviser, Disability Adviser) will know. You will have to agree if you want relevant information passed on to your course team. See Can I talk in confidence about disability-related issues? for more information.

You can book a Wellbeing Advice appointment to discuss and disclose this information.
