What is Turnitin?

As part of your assessments, you may be asked to submit work to Turnitin. Turnitin is the system the University uses to check the similarity of your work to a database of content from the web, academic reference materials and other students’ work. Use of the service allows the University to ensure that all students’ work is original and graded accordingly.

Turnitin can also help students avoid plagiarising other people’s work as it provides an Originality Report, which identifies parts of your work that may have come from other sources. You can then check to make sure everything has been referenced correctly. The active feedback on citation and referencing can also help students to improve their academic writing skills.

Note: There have been some reports of students having difficulty submitting to Turnitin when using Microsoft Edge. You may need to add Turnitin to your trusted sites list. For full compatibility requirements and other browser details, see Turnitin Requirements. All university PCs have been set up to work with Turnitin.

You can find more information and guidance about Turnitin on the Turnitin Feedback Studio Guide pages.
