FAQ 295
Why does my module tutor need to authorise my Extenuating Circumstances Form?

You need to obtain your module tutor’s agreement to an assessment extension due to Extenuating Circumstances, so that they can agree that the ‘date requested by you for submission’ is suitable i.e.

  • That your module tutor agrees that they are available to receive the work or make arrangements for the work to be submitted to them.
  • That the date takes into consideration additional academic requirements, such as booking laboratories or performance spaces etc.
  • That an extension is possible following non-attendance. i.e. an extension for a piece of coursework following a field trip may not be possible as the field trip cannot be replicated.
  • That the date you have requested is before the date that they must provide the marks and feedback to the rest of the cohort.

Agreement from your module tutor can be either:- a signature on the Extenuating Circumstances form or a copy of your module tutor email stating their agreement to your requested date must be provided.

Your tutor's agreement to the requested date is NOT confirmation that your claim for Extenuating Circumstances has been agreed, ONLY that the extension to the assessment deadline can be accommodated.  The decision remains with the Extenuating Circumstances Panel.
