FAQ 268
I need a letter confirming my student status so that I can open a bank account.

Note: bank letters are not required for online banks.

Home students

Home students can open a bank account using their Student Status Letter, they do not need a separate bank letter. Request a Student Status Letter.

International Students

International students can request a bank letter using this link: Request Bank Letter.

You will be shown a list of bank branches to choose from. If you do not see the specific branch where you wish to open an account, please use this form on Advice Zone Online, where you can specify your branch address. This may take slightly longer to process.

Please do not request letters for multiple banks. However, if one bank refuses your application, you may request a new bank letter for a different bank.

International students require a bank letter to open a student bank account. The bank letter confirms the course and year you are enrolled on, the length of the course, the start date and the expected end date of the course. The letter also confirms the home and term address held for you by the University.

The Banks and Bank Accounts page explains the benefits of having a UK bank account,  how to choose one, and what other documentation may be required.
